A pioneer in minimally invasive orthopaedic and spine surgery, Bryan J. Massoud, M.D., founded Spine Centers of America and is among the most experienced board certified orthopedic spine surgeons in the Northeast. He has performed thousands of procedures using endoscopic techniques for the treatment of many spinal disorders, including: cervical and lumbar disc herniations, thoracic disc herniations, spinal stenosis, failed back surgery syndrome, degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis and infections. Dr. Massoud also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic orthopaedic and spine injuries from motor vehicle accidents, falls and other personal injury accidents. A respected leader in his profession, Dr. Massoud instructs orthopedic residents and physicians in new minimally invasive surgical procedures such as kyphoplasty and endoscopic techniques.
Dr. Massoud is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Penn., Dr. Massoud graduated from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey. Upon completion of his general surgery internship, Dr. Massoud undertook an orthopedic surgery residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in New Jersey. Dr. Massoud then chose to advance his skills in spine surgery by accepting a fellowship at the Texas Back Institute, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious multidisciplinary spine clinics. During his fellowship, Dr. Massoud trained with seven different spine surgeons who were involved in the development of cutting-edge technologies. He also assisted in performing surgeries utilizing innovative devices under FDA supervision.
Trained in open and minimally invasive spine surgery at the Texas Back Institute, Dr. Massoud has unique experience in both open and endoscopic techniques. After starting private practice in 1998, Dr. Massoud performed various open procedures including laminectomies, micro-discectomies, fusions, fracture repair, and tumor surgery. In 2006, he discovered the tremendous advantages of endoscopic laser-assisted spinal techniques. In order to advance his surgical skills, Dr. Massoud traveled to England to further his training with Dr. Martin Knight, a pioneer in the field of endoscopic spine surgery. Later he received additional surgical training with Dr. Sebastian Ruetten, Head of Spine Surgery at St. Anna Hospital in Herne, Germany. He continually collaborates with top surgeons globally to develop advanced techniques and further hone his skills.
Dr. Massoud holds various hospital affiliations throughout the community and is a member of many distinguished organizations, including the North American Spine Society, the New Jersey Spine Society, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, and the New Jersey Orthopedic Society. He was selected as one of the Top 100 Spine Surgeons and Specialists In America by Becker's Orthopedic & Spine Review and has been a featured speaker at health conferences and events.
